There are times when a USB Serial cable is needed for an application that only supports COM ports up to COM4 so you need to change the COM number on the USB serial cable that has been installed on the computer, but unfortunately what is installed is COM5 or above. If this happens, you must change the COM port number to the desired COM port number, here’s how:

Open the device manager and look for Prolific USB to Serial that has been installed on the computer,
then in the Action TAB click properties and click the Port Settings tab,
click the Advanced button, then there is an Advanced Setting for COM dialog box,
then please change the COM Port Number, hopefully useful (you can see it in the last product image).
